Alaine Reschke-Hernandez

Dr. Alaine Reschke-Hernandez is a board-certified music therapist and Assistant Professor of Music Therapy at the University of Kentucky. Her interdisciplinary research interests relate to music, emotions, and cognition. She leads the IMAGN lab (Interdisciplinary Music, Affect, and coGNition lab), which strives to advance the scientific foundation that leads, informs, and inspires the effective use of music for health-related interventions. Her dissertation was a finalist for the Council of Graduate Schools/ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Iowa, where she was a Ballard & Seashore Doctoral Fellow and senior researcher in the Tranel Cognitive Neuroscience lab. She completed her Masters in Music at University of Missouri – Kansas City. Her clinical experience includes children with autism, adolescent post-surgical pain management, and older adults with dementia. Dr. Reschke-Hernandez is a professional member of the American Music Therapy Association, Gerontological Society of America, and the Alzheimer’s Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment. She serves on the Continuing Education Committee for the Certification Board for Music Therapists, the editorial board for the Journal of Music Therapy, and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.
