Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
I became a board certified music therapist over nine years ago and have since worked in hospice, nursing home, and ICF settings. My master's thesis explored how music affects pain perception. I am still interested in this topic and have considered pursing a study of pain perception of rehabilitation patients in a nursing home setting during a group music and relaxation class. Right now, I am a full time music therapist in charge of the recreation department at the Stockley Center, an ICF for people with profound IDD and complicated medical needs. I would be interested with connecting with other health care professionals who serve this population and picking their brains about how they have successfully communicated and engaged the people they work with.
