Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
Bre-Anna Owusu is a Ph.D. Candidate in Neuroscience in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster University. She graduated from Swansea University, Wales, United Kingdom with her M.Sc. in Cognitive Neuroscience, and attended the University of Toronto as an undergraduate in Psychology. In the Language, Memory and Brain lab, Bre-Anna Owusu studies the perception and cognition of language and the perception of time, speech and music in relation to linguistic development, specifically dyslexia. She uses behavioural methods and EEG to explore questions such as: Will engaging in rhythm-based training enhance verbal memory processing in people with dyslexia? Which aspects of rhythmic attending (e.g., passive listening, synchronous finger tapping) will drive these enhancements? Bre-Anna also has over 12 years of experience instructing piano to individuals of all ages and levels (preliminary – professional).
