Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
An amateur musician, I always wanted to sing along as I played guitar, or piano, but couldn't carry a tune. I developed software that shows you how to stay on pitch, and found more importantly that it helped kids improve their reading. Fast forward, following years of university research and curriculum development, Sing Out and READ was launched offering cellular-enabled tablets with our grade-level appropriate song lessons. Disadvantaged kids who complete the 12-week program make 1-year's reading gain and earn a new tablet of their own. We are not only working to close the Achievement Gap, but also the Digital Divide.
Collaboration Interests:
Celebrity musicians and performers interested in saving at-risk young readers from illiteracy through the power of singing.
Tablet retailers or manufacturers to provide products for use in our program.
Companies interested in supporting efforts to improve literacy among at-risk youth.
