Dr. Ed Amorim is a neurologist with subspecialty training in critical care and epilepsy who treats patients with stroke, traumatic brain injury, coma, epilepsy, sleep disorders, and other critical illnesses.
He has expertise in neurological intensive care, telemedicine, and multimodal brain monitoring with EEG. Dr. Amorim completed fellowship training in neurocritical care and epilepsy at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital (Harvard Medical School), followed by a postdoctoral training fellowship in neuroscience and machine learning at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (CSAIL: Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at MIT).
Dr. Amorim’s research focuses on coma neuroscience. He has a particular interest in non-invasive and invasive EEG time series modeling in coma and EEG data integration to other multimodal bio-signals, neuroimaging, and electronic health care data. He is a board certified neurocritical care physician and directs the Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology Service at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Prior to joining UCSF, he was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, and he remains a Research Affiliate at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Computational Neuroimaging Group at the Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.
