Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
I am a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner at UCSF Medical Center (Parnassus campus) currently enrolled in UCSF's Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Fellowship. This particular fellowship program has been an incredible opportunity given that I have always had a passion for research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives for the patients and multidisciplinary team members in the ICUs.

My goal from this fellowship is to implement and develop an evidence-based project using music interventions to improve outcomes for intubated ICU patients. Music therapy has been shown in the literature to be a non-pharmacological measure that improves a variety of ICU outcomes. However, there does not appear to be a standardized approach for our nursing staff to apply this into daily practice in our ICUs at UCSF. I would like to innovate a standardized approach and implement a patient's music preference into daily ICU practice. In this approach, I would specifically like to assess if instilling an adult intubated music preference into daily practice will lead to decreased amounts of sedatives/analgesics subsequently leading to decreased ventilator days.
