Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
My name is Gabriella (Gabby) Bernard and I am a music therapy and psychology minor undergraduate student at the University of Kansas. I am currently completing my music therapy internship at the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD) in Lewisville, Texas. I am very interested in research and have participated in three systematic reviews alongside several presentations. I have a passion for learning from others and creating a space for emphatic listening and application across fields. My philosophy of music therapy is a recognition that the work we do is a combination of art and science. Clinically facilitated and evidence-based, music therapy uses the medium of music to facilitate a strong therapeutic relationship and enhance goals related to client progress. I believe music therapy treatment, when tailored to each client’s specific needs, works across all domains to enhance physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing. I believe that the music therapy process benefits clients in an innovative and novel way to promote core beliefs of self-efficacy, motivation, resilience, and fulfillment from one’s life/present circumstance.
