Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
Eastman Performing Arts Medicine at the University of Rochester (UR) seeks to explore the many ways that arts impact health. Ur is a R1 research university with a world class music school, the Eastman School of Music, and a teaching hospital under one umbrella. We have researchers currently exploring elements of arts impact on aging and cognitive decline, how music training impacts hearing speech in noise, and have pilots that are about to get off the ground in the area of music interventions which impact depression and cognitive ability in cancer patients. We are able to partner on multi-site studies, and have access to diverse populations of patients, artists, and the facilities to execute high quality research.
Collaboration Interests:
We are particularly focused on the impact of music therapy and therapeutic interventions (non-MT) on health, particularly as this will eventually lead to reimbursable services for healthcare patients. We hold the hope that music therapy and access to music services can become a regular offering to any person throughout the spectrum of life as a support to their physical and mental health.
