Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
I'm the Executive Director of Children in Harmony, a global nonprofit 501c3 organization providing young people the tools they need to make their voices heard through music-making, social emotional learning and community engagement. Our participants learn basic music making skills, while improving their mental well-being and gaining 21st century skills like collaboration and communication. Since 2016, we have funded and guided well established nonprofits in over 10 countries to integrate our flagship program, The Amani Project, within their mission, providing youth participants from low socioeconomic communities access to high-quality, free music education workshops rooted in social-emotional learning, which ultimately empowers them and improves their academic and emotional health outcomes. Our education model was developed with the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, and utilization of their signature mood meter, informs our pedagogy. With our proven success abroad, we are currently targeting partnerships and affiliations with local U.S. organizations and initiatives and would like to build on our impact here, locally.
Collaboration Interests:
I came across the Sound Health Network Initiative via AARP's interview with Julene Johnson and would like to further collaborate on researching the intersection of music and social emotional learning and how it positively impacts our youth.
