Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
I have created and taught courses on music and wellbeing since 2009, for the University of Minnesota Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and various community education programs in the Twin Cities Metro Area. Since 2020 I've been teaching courses on creative arts and healing, with a special emphasis on music and healing, for the University of Minnesota's Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality and Healing. I have been a passionate believer for most of my life in the power of music to promote health and wellbeing, and I LOVE teaching people of all ages about this and hearing their experiences. I have also been a musician since the age of 9 (recorder was my first instrument, later flute, guitar, and ukulele) and have provided music in senior living facilities, hospitals, and clinics for over 15 years: currently I play ukulele for patients, families, and staff at the oncology clinics at the M Health Fairview Clinics & Surgery Center, and I love it. Additionally, I am the secretary on the Board of Directors for the Medical Musician Initiative (I know Renée Fleming knows Andrew Schulman and MMI's work; they've presented about this at Tanglewood).
