Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
Previous career as collaborative pianist, conductor, and choral conductor in opera and musical theater, with extensive work in sacred music. Went back to school for music therapy equivalency (University of Miami) and started working as MT-BC (Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center) in 2017. Completed research on effects of choral singing on resilience in cancer survivors awaiting publication. Additional training in neurologic music therapy and integrative health (Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Arizona). Currently developing and using mindfulness-based music therapy interventions for cognitive rehabilitation and anxiety reduction in cancer patients.
Collaboration Interests:
Very much interested in effects of harmonic sound sequences (receptive listening) on neural entrainment and psychosocial behavior. Also very interested in spreading the word about how underserved communities can use the acts of music in which they are already engaged (i.e., listening, singing, dancing, e.g.) to improve attention, concentration, motivation, and relaxation.
