Michael Alan Anderson is Professor and Chair of Musicology at the Eastman School of Music. As editor of the Eastman case Studies series, he published a study in 2019 involving The Phoenix Symphony’s participation in clinical research with Alzheimer’s patients. This story has led to his involvement with Eastman Performing Arts Medicine and the Sound Health Working Group at the University of Rochester, two efforts exploring the collaborative potential of music within and outside health care environments. He is now leading an initiative to launch ENCORE, a chorus for persons living with dementia, their care partners, and students. He is a member of the University of Rochester Aging Institute and on the national advisory council of Giving Voice.
