Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
I am a physician specializing in intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our agency (community based, non profit) provides a multitude of supports for people with intellectual and sensory deficits. We have a robust music department (music enrichment, music expression, chorus, music therapy, TRAP - The Rhythmic Arts Program, Sound Beam therapy). We have research affiliations with several universities and are active in providing educational experiences for students in special edu, nursing, medicine, OT, PT, SLP and sensory processing disorders.
Collaboration Interests:
Interested in conducting research in the role, impact and data gathering of the connection of music and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, sensory disorders, Fragile X, etc.). Research into how music can help desensitize individuals with disabilities as they encounter social role transitions, loss and the atypical expression of pain and discomfort across the lifespan.
We contribute to HELEN, The Journal of Human Exceptionality.
