Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
Sherilyn M. Adler, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist and educator from South Florida who has been active in the hearing loss community for the last twenty-five years. Dr. Adler received her bachelor’s degree from UCLA and her master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Miami. She served for over eight years as an active member of the Florida Coordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, which she Chaired from 2010-2013. Dr. Adler volunteers for and consults with numerous organizations related to hearing loss including the Alexander Graham Bell Association of Florida, American Cochlear Implant Alliance, HLAA Tampa Bay Advisory Board, and the UHealth Children’s Hearing Program at the University of Miami. Dr. Adler currently serves as the Executive Director of Ear Peace: Save Your Hearing Foundation, a non-profit organization established to educate young people about the dangerous epidemic of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss and its prevention.
Given that musicians are at extremely high risk for this type of progressive and permanent, yet completely preventable, hearing damage, we want to ensure that they understand how to enjoy their passion for music while conserving their hearing.
Collaboration Interests:
We would love to collaborate in the education of music students about NIHL and hearing safety.
Ear Peace Foundation can provide a free classroom presentation (in person, virtual, online) that will teach students about hearing health, NIHL, and safe listening practices.
We want to empower the next generation of musicians to have all the information necessary to enjoy music and allow them to experience a lifetime of hearing health.
We would also be interested in training musicians to serve as Ambassadors who could then teach younger musicians about the importance of protecting their hearing.
