Short biography and a description of your interest(s) in music and health:
I grew up playing piano, tuba and alto sax and always found the musical experience fascinating. I view music as an expression of internal biological states, which provides a means to communicate information in way that is complementary to, but distinct from, language. As such, I am interested in how music can be used to understand fundamental properties of the brain, and how musical training can be used to facilitate healthy cognitive function. My research in this domain focuses on neural processing of rhythm and timing, and the neuroplastic changes that arise from musical training.
